The mortal slaves of the elder jǫtunn Surtr and his many fire jǫtnar kin, the Surtr-thralls are primarily made up of humans who have been captured over the long ages by allies and kin of Surtr, sent to Muspellzheimr, altered by the magics of that world, and forced to labor for the fire jǫtnar and to breed, to make more slaves. Occasionally their numbers are sufficient that Surtr sends them to Miðgarðr to overwhelm the petty human kingdoms and capture still more thralls for Surtr.
Surtr-thralls are clad in burned rags and are covered with the scars and livid wounds gotten by repeated exposure to open flames.
