The Fury Of The Northmen

Goðormr Spawn ()

ᚷᛟᛏᚺᛟᚱᛗᚱ ᚲᛁᚾᛞ

Goðormr Strong-Breath, son of Odin and the newly ascended god-king of Denmark, is an aggressive deity, both for himself and on behalf of his worshipers. He wasted no time in producing offspring with the noblest of the Viking dragons he could find, and then exercised his divine power in accelerating the growth of his children, so that in the space of months they were full-grown. They do not, however, lead the typical lives of those who are the offspring of gods and mortals. Goðormr has made sure that each of his children know that their ultimate purpose is to serve him, and that presuming to stray from that course will end painfully for them (Goðormr is, after all, a dragon as well as a god, and his point of view is often draconic rather than divine).

His children obey his orders—for now—and sometimes venture into one of the Nine Worlds on missions for Goðormr. These missions have ranged from assassinations to the destruction of rivals of Denmark. To date no Goðormr spawn has arrived in England to assist the Goðormr-worshiping Danish Vikings who are a part of the invasion—but that could change at any time.

Goðormr spawn are half-Viking dragon halfdivine creatures, and in their natural forms they appear to be physical exemplars of the Viking dragon folk. They are 30 feet long, winged, and muscular, and are colored in shades of light green, from eyes to scales.

ACTIONS

Multiattack. The Goðormr spawn uses its frightful presence and then makes one attack with its bite and two with its claws. It can make one wing slap attack in place of its claws attacks.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 15 ft, one target. Hit: 17 (2d10+6) piercing damage + 11 (2d10) poison damage.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 10 ft, one target. Hit: 13 (2d6+6) slashing damage.

Wing Slap. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 20 ft, one target. Hit: 23 (3d10+6) bludgeoning damage plus the target must succeed on a DC 15 DEX saving throw or be flung back 10 ft and knocked prone.

Poison Breath (recharge 5-6). The Goðormr spawn spits poison in a 60-ft cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 20 CON saving throw, taking 49 (14d6) poison damage and gaining the poisoned condition on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Frightful Presence. When a Goðormr spawn reveals themselves to mortals, each creature of the spawn’s choice that is within 120 ft of the spawn must succeed on a DC 21 CHA saving throw or gain the frightened condition for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the spawn’s Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours. The Frightful Presence works against creatures CR 17 and below who are ordinarily immune to fear.

LEGENDARY ACTIONS

The dragon can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The dragon regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

  • Tail Attack. The dragon makes an attack with its tail. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 15 ft, one target. Hit: 20 (3d8+6) bludgeoning damage and must succeed on a DC 15 DEX saving throw or be flung 10 feet in any direction and be knocked prone and gain the stunned condition for 1 round.
  • Read Minds. The Goðormr spawn uses its telepathy (120 ft) to thoroughly scan the minds of its opponents, learning their motivations, goals, etc.
  • Cast Spell (costs 2 actions). The dragon casts one of cantrips or 1st or 2nd level spells.

MOTIVES

Goðormr spawn labor on behalf of their father, even when it means endangering themselves. They do so out of a combination of love and fear, as they know Goðormr can kill them far worse than any mortal can.

ALLIES

Goðormr spawn customarily work alone; if they deem it necessary, or if Goðormr orders it so, the spawn surround themselves with other minions and worshipers of Goðormr.
